India’s EV overdrive, powered by PM E-Drive
The government has started vetting proposals from states and oil marketing companies to build EV charging stations under the ₹10,900 crore PM E-Drive scheme. The aim to disburse ₹80 crore for chargers by the end of FY26. Of the total outlay, ₹2,000 crore is earmarked to support over 72,000 charging stations, with subsidy covering up to 70%–100% of infrastructure costs at public sites.
Sugar, green energy associations write to Niti Aayog against automakers objecting to net zero report
New Delhi: The Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA), Indian Federation of Green Energy (IFGE) and National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) have written to Niti Aayog saying certain automobile manufacturers objecting to Niti Aayog’s classification of flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs) and compressed biogas (CBG) vehicles do not adequately reflect India’s broader economic, rural and energy security interests.
Domestic auto sales to moderate in FY27; post-GST demand normalisation
India’s domestic automotive sales volume is expected to grow moderately at 5-8% year-on-year in FY27. India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) has maintained a neutral outlook for the auto sector for FY27. The domestic auto sales volume growth was 7-10% in FY26, driven by the personal mobility segments, mainly 2-wheelers and passenger vehicles. The country’s auto component industry revenue is forecasted to grow at 8-10% y-o-y in FY27.

American semiconductor major Micron, which started its chip assembly, testing, monitoring and packaging (ATMP) facility in Sanand, Gujarat, a few days ago, had speed in mind while deciding the location of its India plant. The Idaho-headquartered company, which has plants across the world, had two options in India — Dholera and Sanand in Gujarat — both of which are developing as manufacturing hubs.

Iranian missile strikes across the Gulf have injected fresh uncertainty into a region that has become a key export market for India’s commercial vehicle (CV) makers in recent years. Iran’s retaliatory strikes on US bases, now in their fifth day, have affected Gulf cities including Dubai, Doha, Bahrain and Kuwait, raising concerns over shipments to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which accounts for nearly a fourth of India’s truck and bus exports.
