The OG returns: Renault Duster
When the Renault Duster arrived in July 2012, it did something straightforward but consequential. It put a properly capable monocoque SUV in a price bracket that hadn’t seen one before. Buyers responded immediately — nearly 40,000 units were sold in its first year and 100,000 units by 2014. More importantly, it showed the rest of the industry that the appetite for an accessible C-segment SUV in India was very real. Hyundai, for one, was paying close attention; its Creta arrived in 2015 and has dominated the segment ever since.

Dhurandhar is back in town: New Renault Duster
Dhurandhar means being a top gun in your field, which the original Duster was from 2012-15. Then, it ran into the undisputed Animal of the SUV market — the Creta. This ‘alpha male’ has been hunting every other SUV ever since, and be it a Maruti Suzuki or a Kia, the Creta has decimated the competition. The Duster — discontinued in 2022 — is back. We drove it across the Himalayas, and realised it has refined its DNA and polished its physique to challenge the alpha.
