Hyderabad: Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India will roll out four more electric vehicles by 2031, a senior executive of the company said on Saturday here.

Those looking to buy a turbo-petrol variant of the Fronx this month can take advantage of up to Rs 55,000 in benefits, which include a Rs 40,000 cash discount and either a Rs 10,000 exchange bonus or a Rs 15,000 scrappage offer. The cash discount is eliminated for all other Fronx variants, so their total benefits go up to Rs 15,000 only. In turbo-petrol guise, the Fronx is fitted with a 100hp 1.0-litre engine that offers 5-speed manual and 6-speed AT options, while the NA petrol versions feature a 90hp 1.2-litre mill with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT.

Despite the dominating market shift towards Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), Maruti Suzuki’s Dzire sedan reclaimed the throne as India’s best-selling passenger vehicle for the 2025-26 fiscal year (FY26). The Dzire led the pack with approximately 2.30 lakh units sold, proving that the sedan segment still holds significant weight in the Indian market. Tata Nexon was at the second place, selling 2.16 lakh units, Hyundai Creta at 2.02 lakh units, Maruti Ertiga at 1.99 lakh units and Swift at 1.85 lakh units as the top five most selling vehicles in the country.

FY26 is officially the year when Maruti Suzuki ceased to be a hatchback car company. Sales data sourced from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) shows that, in the 11 months of FY26, the carmaker has sold 689,631 utility vehicles (SUVs plus MPVs), which is 60,673 units more than the 628,958 hatchbacks it sold during the same period. Just two years ago, in FY24, the carmaker’s hatchbacks (805,593 units) had a healthy lead of 163,297 units over UVs (642,296), but this reduced to 11,302 units in FY25 (731,486 hatchbacks versus 720,184 UVs). Finally UVs are set to beat hatchbacks in FY26.
