Auto sector faces resilience test in FY27 amid supply risks
The automobile sector is entering FY27 facing a test of resilience after a policy-led demand rebound in the latter half of FY26, when GST-driven price cuts helped revive passenger vehicle (PV) sales. The recovery, which gathered pace from September 2025, lifted volumes through the festive season and into the March quarter, but rising supply-side risks and a high base are expected to shape a more tempered trajectory ahead.

New Delhi: India plans to float a fresh tender for over 3,000 electric buses by June, according to people aware of the development. This is set to be launched just six months after closing of the country's largest e-bus tender for over 10,000 units.
E-autos take lead: Mahindra, Bajaj, TVS in three-way race in FY26
India’s electric three-wheeler market is shaping into a three-way contest in FY2026, as per Vahan data, with Mahindra Last Mile Mobility leading with over 91,000 units and around 35 per cent share in the high-speed electric auto (L5) segment, followed closely by Bajaj Auto at more than 87,000 units and over 33 per cent, while TVS Motor has emerged as a fast-growing challenger with over 27,000 units and a double-digit share.

Chennai: For the first time since it entered the electric mobility space in 2022, Hinduja Group-backed Switch Mobility has raced past incumbents to become India’s largest electric bus maker in FY26, dethroning Tata Motors and Olectra Greentech with a blistering 177% surge in volumes—far outpacing the market’s 44% growth, VAHAN data showed.

The nationwide rollout pushes ahead even as most vehicles on the road are not built for the fuel, raising concerns over efficiency and engine wear.
Hormuz blocked, but India may get first delivery of Iranian crude oil after 7 years
An oil tanker carrying Iranian crude is signaling India as its destination, marking the first potential delivery of Tehran’s crude to India since May 2019. Amid the raging West Asia war, the US on March 21 suspended for a month the sanctions on Iranian crude already loaded on tankers in a bid to allow as many barrels of oil as possible to flow into the international market to improve the global oil supply situation and curb spiraling crude oil prices. The waiver from Washington was similar to the one issued for Russian oil earlier in March.
