Toyota initiates process to enhance manufacturing capacity in India
Japanese auto major Toyota Motor Corporation has initiated the process to enhance manufacturing capacity in India with two plants running at full capacity in the country, a senior company official said on Thursday. Speaking to media on the sidelines of the Japan Mobility Show here, Toyota Motor Corporation Board Member and Executive Vice President Yoichi Miyazaki confirmed the development and said the company is reaching full plant capacity utilisation in India.
Renault announces eight new models for global markets
French carmaker Renault has announced that it will invest €3 billion (over Rs 26,000 crore to launch eight new models outside Europe for global markets by 2027. Out of these eight, five will be from the C and D segments, with the help of two platforms for different regions. The first will be a new Renault Group modular platform for Latin America, North Africa, Turkiye and India, while the second will be a Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform dedicated to the D and E segments.

India needs both e-vehicles and biofuels
Given that vehicles are the biggest culprits for polluting Delhi, the government has launched a stringent drive against polluting vehicles this year, through measures such as banning petrol and diesel vehicles older than 15 years and 10 years, respectively; promoting e-vehicles; and the deployment of nearly 400 teams on Delhi’s roads to check the vehicles’ pollution certificates and prevent the plying of over-age cars. The most far-reaching move is, however, the push for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced a policy of EV30@2030, where by 2030 30 per cent of the newly registered private cars, 40 per cent of buses, 70 per cent of commercial vehicles, and 80 per cent of two- and three-wheelers will be electric vehicles.
