Govt launches 12th round of commercial coal mine auctions
New Delhi: Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy on Thursday launched the 12th round of commercial coal mine auctions under which the government is offering 25 blocks from seven coal-bearing states, furthering efforts to boost domestic production and strengthen energy security. Of the total coal mines being offered, 7 blocks are under Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015 (CMSP Act) and 18 mines under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 (MMDR Act).
GAIL, Coal India form joint venture to boost synthetic gas production
GAIL (India) Limited and Coal India Limited on Tuesday announced the formation of a joint venture, Coal Gas India Limited, to expand the use of synthetic natural gas.

JSW Infrastructure acquires slurry pipeline business for ₹1,617 crore
Mumbai: The shares of JSW Infrastructure Limited were trading at ₹325.35 up by ₹9.35 or 2.96 per cent on the NSE today at 2.45 pm. JSW Infrastructure Limited has completed a significant business acquisition, executing a Business Transfer Agreement on March 25, 2025, to purchase a slurry pipeline business from JSW Utkal Steel Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Steel Limited. The transaction, valued at ₹1,617 crore and subject to closing adjustments, involves the acquisition of a pipeline for transporting iron ore from Nuagaon mines to Jagatsinghpur in Odisha.

Is OPEC+ losing control on oil prices? A look at how Trump tariff changed equations
OPEC+ is losing its ability to control oil prices due to weak global demand and rising non-OPEC oil supplies. Now, after the change in administration in the US, the control of OPEC+ on oil prices seems to be at its lowest level, stated a report by Kotak Institutional Equities (KIE). “We cut our oil price assumption to $70/bbl for FY2026-27 and LT ($80/bbl earlier). Lower oil prices are negative for upstream,” it said.

New Delhi: India’s coal demand hit an all-time high in the 2024 calendar year (CY), on an annual basis, as prolonged heat waves led to a record surge in power demand coupled with an expanding industrial and commercial base. International Energy Agency’s (IEA) global energy review states “In India, the world’s second-largest coal consumer, demand grew by around 5.5 per cent or 40 million tonnes of coal equivalent (Mtce) in 2024, also reaching a new all-time high.”
