Leveraging its alliance with Suzuki, Toyota has once again resorted to its tried and tested badge engineering exercise to enter segments it doesn’t have a presence in. After entering the hatchback space with the Maruti Baleno-based Glanza and the midsize SUV segment with the Maruti Grand Vitara-based Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Toyota now aims to establish its presence in the affordable MPV segment with the Maruti Ertiga-based Rumion.

The CNG version of Toyota's latest MPV has more demand than its standard version. The Maruti Ertiga-rival, launched in August this year at a starting price of ₹10.29 lakh (ex-showroom), is sold in petrol and CNG variants. The waiting period on the Rumion CNG could go up to 18 months, or one and a half years, depending on where the buyer has booked it. Due to high demand, Toyota had to temporarily halt bookings for the Rumion E-CNG variant in September. Rumion draws power from the 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine paired with manual and automatic transmission options.

Toyota Kriloskar Motors halts bookings for Rumion CNG variant due to longer waiting period
The company said, “We launched the new Toyota Rumion in August this year and have received overwhelming response from our customers who have been waiting for a Toyota vehicle in the B-MPV segment. We are heartened to see the increasing inflow of enquiries and healthy bookings for it. The demand has surpassed our expectations, resulting in a long delivery time across variants, especially for the E-CNG option. This has necessitated us to temporarily halt bookings of the E-CNG option only to avoid customer inconvenience due to longer waiting periods. However, we continue to accept bookings for the PETROL (NeoDrive) variants of the new Rumion."
