Electric cars are no strangers to the Autocar India long-term garage, but with the MG Comet, Mercedes-Benz EQB and the Audi Q8 e-tron, we’re kind of electric-heavy right now. Which meant that despite me generally avoiding them, for a few days last month, I ended up with the keys to the Audi.

When we last brought this segment together for a comparison test, we realised this was the hotbed of EV development, with trends set here filtering down into the mainstream. Sure, there are more expensive, more advanced EVs in the market, but really, it’s this lot of luxury SUVs that cost just over a crore that set the template. After all, they’ve got the three things everyone wants – an electric powertrain, an SUV body style (mostly), and a prestigious badge on the nose. Perhaps more telling is that our last go at this segment was barely two years ago, and only one of the EVs has returned unchanged. That’s progress.

Audi updates 2024 Q8 and SQ8 with exterior changes and lighting advancements
New Delhi: Audi has refreshed its leading Q8 55 TFSI and sporty SQ8 with a new design and improved lighting technology. The 2024 Audi Q8 is now equipped with standard Matrix-design LED headlights, while the digital OLED rear lights offer four selectable lighting signatures, exclusively available on the SQ8. The models also feature new front and rear fascias, along with new wheels, exterior colors, decorative interior inlays, and seats with contrasting stitching.

Audi Q8 facelift review: Mildly does it

The Audi Q8 arrived back in 2018 and became the brand’s flagship SUV. Five years later, you’d expect a significant update, but what we have here is a rather mild one. This, of course, means the new Q8 sits on the same Volkswagen Group MLB Evo platform, but also looks very similar to the outgoing car. It offers the same choice of powerplants, which include diesel and petrol engines; for our market though, keeping in line with Audi India’s strategy, there will be no diesel. Also not to be confused, there is the electric Q8 – the Q8 e-tron – however, that one is actually the updated e-tron SUV with the Q8 moniker added at the time of its facelift, which incidentally did see a more significant update.

It seemed like a walk in the park when the idea was put forward in the edit meeting. I smirked as the cruise from Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu to Varkala Beach in Kerala was lovely from what I could remember. Not impressed with the look on my face, a “caveat” was added – I would have to do it in an EV. 

Audi records 88% growth in first nine months– Q8 e-tron, Q3 drive sales
Audi has announced its cumulative sales figures for the first nine months of 2023 CY. The German luxury carmaker has registered sales of 5,530 units in the same period, which has resulted in a growth of 88% over the corresponding period in the previous year. 

Audi Q8 limited edition launched at Rs 1.18 crore
Audi India has launched a limited-edition version of the Q8 SUV for Rs 1.18 crore (ex-showroom, India). This special edition costs around Rs 11 lakh more than the Q8 Celebration trim (Rs 1.07 crore) and will be available in limited numbers. While Audi recently revealed the Q8 facelift globally at the Munich motor show, the Q8 limited edition is based on the outgoing model.
