RBI mandate expands beyond traditional roles, says Governor Sanjay Malhotra
RBI governor Sanjay Malhotra on Tuesday said that the role of the regulator has expanded beyond its initial mandate.

Mumbai: In the decade since its launch, cumulatively more than 52 crore accounts have been opened under the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA (Micro Units Development and Refinancing Agency) Yojana/ PMMY for providing collateral-free and adequate access to finance for MSMEs, per a SBI report. The credit to the segment estimated to have more than trebled to about ₹30 lakh crore in the last 10 years.

Mumbai: India’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) is scouting for fintechs which can help it gain an edge over competitors with debt card solutions, including an option for customers to print their own cards at kiosks.
PNB, CSB and several banks see credit growth outpace deposits in Q4
State-owned Punjab National Bank on Wednesday said its deposits grew by 13.3 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to ₹13.3 trillion while its advances grew 13.2 per cent Y-o-Y to ₹9.42 trillion during the fourth quarter of financial year 2025 (Q4FY25). Sequentially, advances grew 2.4 per cent, while deposits grew by 1.7 per cent, the bank said in its quarterly update.
