Scania drafts revival blueprint for Indian truck operations
Since the time Scania shut down its bus body production in India seven years ago, it seemed as if the Swedish commercial vehicle maker had gone into oblivion thereafter. This was the year when MAN Trucks also decided to call it a day in India, just when it seemed as if it was gearing up for the long haul.
Both Scania and MAN are part of the Traton group (formerly Volkswagen Truck & Bus AG), and during their coexistence in India, there were talks of synergies happening at the backend. MAN exited while Scania stayed on, though its presence was hardly noticed.
As Managing Director of Scania India Commercial Vehicles, Silvio Munhoz reiterates that all this is a thing of the past. “We have a strong decision from our board regarding the need to have a very nice and decent position in the Indian truck market,” he told ET Auto in a recent interview.
