Pre-owned car market to reach 9.5 million units by 2030: Report
Mumbai: India’s pre-owned car market, which was at 5.9 million units in FY25, is expected to touch 9.5 million units by 2030, growing at an annual 10 per cent, according to a survey. Nearly 1 in 2 buyers preferred to purchase SUVs, with demand in non-metro areas booming for pre-owned automobiles, according to the Indian Blue Book Survey. SUVs and compact SUVs have captured over half of the used car market, up from 23 per cent four years ago. Average selling price has increased by 36 per cent over four years, and non-metro buyers have emerged as the fastest-growing force, with 68 per cent expressing a likelihood to repurchase a used car.

Yamaha and its quest for premium EVs
Yamaha has entered the nascent Indian electric mobility market by unveiling two premium scooters: the Aerox-E and the EC-06. While their prices are set to be announced in early 2026, Ravinder Singh, senior vice-president, Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India, said that the company is taking a cautious, quality-focused approach rather than chasing immediate volume.
Ahmedabad-based EV start-up bike manufacturer Matter expects 10x sale to 25,000 units next fiscal
Chennai: ‘The Ahmedabad-based two-wheeler electric vehicle start-up, Matter, which started production in July this year, expects a 10X increase in vehicle sales next financial year. It has sold around 1,000 vehicles and is targeting 2,500 vehicle sales by this year-end and 25,000 next fiscal, said its Founder and Group COO Arun Pratap Singh. The company, which was formed in 2019 with three members in a small room, today has nearly 1,000 employees, including 600 engineers. It has so far invested ₹700 crore in the manufacturing facility at Ahmedabad. The facility was inaugurated in April, he told businessline on Friday. The current capacity is 5,000 vehicles in a single shift in a month. “In 2027-28, we plan to make it a double shift wherein the capacity will double,” he said, after the launch of the company’s bikes - Aera 5000 and Aera 5000+ models in Chennai.

Multiple growth triggers strengthen outlook for Samvardhana Motherson

The country’s largest listed auto parts company by market capitalisation, Samvardhana Motherson International, reported a better-than-expected operating performance in the second quarter (July-September) of 2025-26 (Q2FY26). Though the global passenger vehicle (PV) market is facing multiple headwinds, the company is outperforming on the back of higher content per vehicle and market share gains. This has led some brokerages to raise their earnings estimates after the Q2 results. While the stock has underperformed peers, trading flat over the past year, it has gained about 6 per cent this week.

The company’s net profit stood at ₹297.77 crore for the second quarter last fiscal. Revenue from operations during the second quarter of FY26 fell 2.08 per cent y-o-y at ₹4178.29 crore as against ₹4267.30 crore for the corresponding period of FY25, the company said in a stock exchange filing.
