Auto Inc seeks higher credits for EVs under new CAFE norms
While passenger vehicle manufacturers continue to be divided over relaxed emission norms proposed for small cars with Maruti in favour of the relief and Tata Motors, Mahindra, and others opposed to it, they are unitedly seeking higher super credits for electric vehicles than flex-fuel and hybrid models. The new emission norms — Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) III — would come into effect from 2027 and be valid till 2032.
CAFE III: SIAM requests BEE for an industry-friendly regulation
New Delhi: The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has made several major requests to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), emphasising that the proposed CAFE-III norms (effective April 2027 to March 2032) are too strict and could severely impact the auto industry. While there is no consensus within SIAM members on the treatment and regulation of small, lightweight cars versus heavier vehicles, in its submissions to the BEE, SIAM suggested adopting a combined carbon credit over five years instead of requiring compliance with changing annual targets.
Tata Motors bets on demand surge in second half as core Q2 profit doubles
New Delhi: Tata Motors Ltd is looking to build on sales momentum in the second half of the financial year after profit from its core commercial vehicle business more than doubled in the September quarter.
HC favours digital evidence for vehicle identification

“The solution is to record a video of the vehicle and to play the same to the victims/witnesses, so that it can be easily identified. Needless to say, digital evidence can be stored indefinitely simply by upgrading the technology,” the Bench observed.

EV industry hopes dim as China links magnets supply to India easing FDI rules
China is unlikely to ease restrictions on export of rare earth minerals and other auto parts till the Indian government reciprocates by dialing down curbs on the Chinese industry under Press Note 3. This stance was made clear to electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers at a meeting in the Chinese embassy during the Diwali period. According to sources in the EV industry, the Chinese embassy officials were clear about reciprocity from India on allowing FDI from China if they expect easing of export controls on rare earth elements.

India’s Eicher Motors, maker of Royal Enfield motorcycles, reported higher second-quarter profit on Thursday, riding on a jump in sales both domestically and outside the country. The company said its consolidated net profit rose 24.5 per cent year-on-year to 13.69 billion rupees ($155.75 million) in the three months to September 30. Royal Enfield recorded its highest jump in motorcycle sales in more than three years, rising 43.2 per cent year-over-year.
