Japan Mobility Show 2025: Honda, Suzuki, Toyota aim to revolutionise Indian roads
The ongoing Japan Mobility Show (JMS) 2025 has uncovered some exciting concepts and technologies. Japanese auto manufacturers, being large shareholders of the Indian automobile market, have showcased some exciting products at the event that will have an India connection in the near future. Suzuki, Honda and Toyota showcased some of the most spectacular products at the event, some in conceptualised form and some in near-production guise. The key theme every automaker adopted for their showcased products and technology at the event is the industry's multi-way approach to carbon neutrality, through cleaner powertrain solutions, which encompass not just battery electric vehicles, but hybrids, plug-in fuel cell electric vehicles, hydrogen cell electric vehicles, etc.

New Delhi: The government plans to nudge the automobile industry to invest in research and development (R&D) of rare-earth-magnet-free technology, according to two officials aware of the plan, as the country seeks to break free from China’s stranglehold and adopt cleaner solutions.
Open to sky, exposed to risk: Cars with sunroofs brewing new safety concerns
Car buyers in India, in both mass and luxury segments, have developed a fascination for sunroofs. The preference for this feature has been increasing fast. The demand has surged so rapidly that the penetration of the sunroofs in Indian cars has increased to about 30% in 2024, up from 17.82% in 2021. One of the top three carmakers in the country, Hyundai, reported more than 54% of its cars sold between January and June 2025 had a sunroof, up from 52% in the same period of 2024. The sunroof penetration in Hyundai cars has increased to 53% in the first half of FY25, up 47.4% in the same period last year. In the SUV segment that has been growing at a maddening pace in India, nearly 85% models come equipped with a sunroof. Online searches for the 'cars with sunroof' keyword have grown by 35%.

EV makers urge Tamil Nadu to extend 100% road tax waiver beyond 2025 to boost adoption
As the Tamil Nadu Government’s 100 per cent tax exemption for both transport and non-transport Electric Vehicles(EVs) is set to expire by the end of 2025, industry players and experts call for the extension of the critical incentive to spur adoption. Speaking to businessline, EV industry experts suggest that tax exemptions, along with other incentives, have significantly bolstered EV adoption, and a further extension is critical for the continued development of the state’s ecosystem.

While the overall passenger vehicle market saw record dispatches of over 5,00,000 units in October 2025, retail sales of EVs also recovered after witnessing a month-on-month fall in September (16,354 units).
