Govt sets ball rolling for e-auction of 7 critical mineral blocks
New Delhi: The Ministry of Mines has fixed May 16 as the last date for the sale of tender documents to bid in the e-auction for seven critical mineral blocks under the tranche III round. The deadline for the submission of the documents is May 21.
Govt forms 14th task force to explore use of biochar in steel production
New Delhi: The government has set up a task force to explore the use of biochar in steel production as part of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the steel industry. According to official data, the domestic steel sector accounts for 12% of India's greenhouse gas emissions with an emission intensity of 2.55 tonnes CO2 per tonne of crude steel compared to the global average of 1.9 tonnes CO2.
Panasonic to form JV with IOCL to make cylindrical lithium-ion batteries

Panasonic Energy Co Ltd, a group firm of Japan-based multinational electronics company, has signed a binding term sheet and initiated discussions with IOCL "to draw a framework for the formation of a joint venture" to manufacture cylindrical lithium-ion batteries, said a statement on Sunday.

JSW Steel commissions hot strip mill with 5 million tonnes capacity at Karnataka plant
New Delhi: JSW Steel on Saturday announced commissioning of a hot strip mill at its integrated steel plant in Vijayanagar, Karnataka. The company has also made first dispatch of steel products from the mill having an annual capacity of 5 million tonnes (MT), JSW Steel said in an exchange filing.

In March 2023, Union Steel Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia approved the formation of 13 task forces to identify action points for each aspect of green steel production and the adoption of sustainable manufacturing processes. The 13 task forces were formed with a focus on various aspects of green steel production, including raw materials, technology, and policy frameworks, the minister said earlier.

Coal ministry eyes asset monetization worth nearly ₹55,000 cr in FY25
New Delhi: The union ministry of coal is targeting monetization of assets worth ₹54,721 crore in FY25, about 9% higher than the ₹50,118 crore target set in FY24.
4th tranche of critical mineral auction likely post polls; Mixed response for 1st tranche
New Delhi: Seven critical mineral blocks, that were put out for auction in the first round, have either not got bidders or have got less than three qualified bidders. These blocks will again be put up for the auctions in the fourth tranche, due later this year; following a tweak in some rules including putting in place clearances absence of which have come as a hindrance to the auction process, sources in the Union Mines Ministry told businessline. A second round of e-auction is under-way for another six mineral blocks that have got more than five bids. This round of bidding (forward ascending) is being carried out to determine the winner of these blocks, mostly relating to fertiliser minerals, sources said.
Summer ready: Railways draws up plan to ease coal transportation
After the completion of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) between Punjab and Bihar late last year, the Ministry of Railways will rely extensively on the completed network to avoid another coal crisis. The EDFC is expected to decongest trunk routes like Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction (erstwhile Mughalsarai), which is the most congested point and typically leads to delays of more than six hours on peak passenger/coal transport days.
Coal India likely to report production of around 773.7 MT in FY24

However, it is expected to fall short of the target of 780 million tonnes.
