Private general insurers increased their combined market share to 53.58 per cent in gross direct premium underwritten in the first half of the current financial year from 50.81 per cent in the year-ago period. As many as 31 insurers from the non-life industry had underwritten gross direct premiums of Rs 1.43 lakh crore in the first half of the current financial year, according to data on segment-wise gross direct premiums up to September 2023 released by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai).

Sebi to introduce regulatory framework for index providers
Markets watchdog Sebi on Saturday approved a slew of proposals, including providing flexibility to Not for Profit Organisations (NPOs) in raising funds through the social stock exchange and also decided to introduce a regulatory framework for index providers. Besides, the regulator will put in place a new regulatory framework for facilitating Small and Medium Real Estate Investment Trusts (SM REITS) apart from amending norms to strengthen the protection of investors who have pumped in money into Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs).

Sebi tweaks rules, asks AIFs to dematerialise units
To facilitate ease of compliance and strengthen investor protection in Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs), Sebi on Saturday said all the fresh investments made by an AIF after September 2024 should be held in demat form. Approving amendment to AIF rules, Sebi said that some exceptions have been provided.

Invesco is reportedly found to have shuffled securities between schemes in alleged violation of rules.

FPIs reverse selling trend ; invest Rs 378 crore in equities in Nov
Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have pared their bearish stance on Indian equities during November as they made a net investment of Rs 378 crore on the sharp decline in US treasury bond yields. This came after FPIs dumped Indian equities worth Rs 24,548 crore in October and Rs 14,767 crore in September, data with the depositories showed.
